Today on The Young and the Restless, Laurence analyzes Diane, Kyle comes up with a troubling plan, and Victor pays Nikki a visit.
At the outdoor café, Jack complains about Patty’s awful quiche and asks Kyle what happened when he followed Laurence. Kyle says he tracked him to a place deep in the woods outside town near Power Lake. Jack wonders if Diane is being kept there.
Kyle hopes Diane isn’t being held there because the place is basically a gated fortress. His investigation revealed that it’s Dr. Markham’s private residence. They discuss Patty’s claim that Markham was sent by Diane’s therapist, before realizing that therapist doesn’t actually exist. Another troubling detail? Laurence claimed Patty has been cured… and something about that feels very wrong.
Kyle wants to head over there, but Jack warns that they have to be careful or Diane could be moved. Kyle is stunned to learn that Patty intends to become Jack’s wife. He finds the whole thing just as ridiculous as we do. Concluding that Laurence is a quack, they agree they need to find Diane before she gets hurt.
Probing Diane
At Laurence’s house, he asks Diane if she’s ready to explore her feelings and discover how she ended up there. Diane cryptically replies that she wants the answer to that question more than he could possibly know. Once seated, Laurence advises her to think of him as an old trusted friend and begins asking about finding her husband on a yacht with another woman.
Diane asks how he knows about that. He claims she was rambling about it when he found her by the side of the road. Diane resists discussing it, so he starts asking about her marriage instead. Diane explains that it was the closest thing to perfect she’s ever experienced… and she believes Jack felt the same way.
Laurence describes love as a construct of attachment, a kind of madness. Diane squints and says, “Surely, you’ve been in love before.” Laurence avoids the question and returns to the night on the yacht. Diane opens up, becoming emotional as she talks about Patty’s obsession with Jack and finding them together in the stateroom. She describes the shock, anger and pain… though it wasn’t entirely Jack’s fault. Laurence suggests, “Because of the drugs?”
Startled, Diane asks how he knew that. Once again, Laurence claims she told him the night he found her. He explains that ecstasy wouldn’t have completely erased Jack’s ability to think rationally. As she processes the betrayal, Diane cries and admits she wondered whether it happened because she was lacking something. At the same time, she hated herself for not being able to forgive Jack.
Confession Time
At the Club, Victoria runs into Claire, who notices she’s been crying and asks about Nikki’s appointment. Victoria covers by claiming they still don’t have any results.
Claire admits she tried to get her grandparents together for brunch… but it may have made things worse.
They discuss their frustration, and Claire confesses that she told Victor about Nikki’s headaches. Victoria shrugs and says she wants her father to know what’s happening… especially now. Given the way she says it, Victoria finally admits that Nikki’s diagnosis is worse than she expected.
Once Claire fully understands, she struggles with the possibility that her grandmother could lose her eyesight. Victoria warns her not to tell anyone… especially Victor. Claire wonders if Nikki will tell him herself now that he has gone upstairs.
Victor’s Visit
In her suite, Nikki is researching the risks of surgery when there’s a knock at the door… it’s Victor. She reluctantly lets him in. Victor explains that Claire is upset about their separation and told him about the headaches. After yesterday’s episode, he fears it may be something more serious than stress.
Nikki scoffs when Victor asks her to be honest and lies that she’s fine. The headaches are caused by stress. Victor asks about the blurred vision (thanks to Claire) and says he knows she was in terrible pain. Still insisting she’s alright, Nikki thanks him for his concern and admits she hasn’t told Nicholas because he already has enough to deal with. They argue about Matt Clark staying at the ranch, and Victor wonders whether her headaches are self-inflicted.
Offended, Nikki informs Victor that he is the source of her stress because he brought a criminal into the same home as their children and grandchildren. She orders him out and hands over her wedding rings as he leaves. Victor takes them, points at her, and walks out. Outside the closed door, he looks visibly shaken.
Heading downstairs, Victor runs into Claire and Victoria. Victoria is disappointed to learn that he argued with her mother. She suggests they spend some time apart. Victor suspects she is hiding something about Nikki’s health.
The Final Scenes
At the outdoor café, Kyle wants to call the authorities and bring his mother home, but Jack refuses. Kyle decides he’ll break into Markham’s house himself. Jack wants him to back off, but Kyle argues they have run out of options and are racing against the clock… especially if Patty decides to act on the “until death do us part” idea, because then his mother’s life could be in danger!
At Laurence’s house, Diane admits that Jack forgave her for faking her death, but part of her never truly believed it. When the yacht incident happened, she took it as proof that she never really had his heart. She couldn’t forgive him. Laurence shrugs. “Maybe you shouldn’t.” Maybe it’s a sign… to move on.
At the Club, Nikki allows Nate into her suite and reminds him that she doesn’t want anyone besides Victoria knowing about her condition. Nate has reviewed her MRI and warns that assembling the right surgical team will be critical. Nikki blurts out, “Will you do it? I’d trust you with my life.”
Nate reminds Nikki that he can no longer perform surgery. Distressed, she admits she forgot. She’s simply so worried. Nate promises to help her find an excellent surgeon, but she will need all the support she can get.
In the dining room, Victor grumbles that Nikki keeps stonewalling him and hiding things from him… and it makes him furious. He believes Claire and Victoria are doing exactly the same thing and demands that they be honest with him.
